Nightmare on Elm Street series

So. The Nightmare on Elm Street movies are a staple ingredient in any horror fan's diet, and they were instrumental in the rise of horror movies in the '80s. Freddy Kreuger is a great bad guy and although he was very scary in the original movies, I quite liked the way his character developed from evil to evil wtih a sense of humour, then almost into a parody of himself (New Nightmare) which came about before the self-referential horror of Scream. All in all, I love these movies (although I have yet to see the newest one).

I agree, they are awesome movies. I love the earlier ones better than the last few, primarily because he seemed scarier when we didn't know much about him. One of the few series I can watch again and again.

I love the first 3, but not as big of a fan of "funny Freddy". The Platinum Dunes remake from last year is an insult to anybody who's ever seen Wes Craven's original, if you haven't seen it yet, you aren't missing much.

I was afraid of that, so I didn't watch it. After the things I have heard, I won't be watching it.

I thought the remake had some interesting set pieces, but it was a shame to redo Freddy.  Not having Robert Englund affected the whole feel of the film and made it seem like the generic store brand version.

It kinda felt like they originally wanted the story to turn out that Freddy was wrongly accused, and was taking revenge on the children of the people who killed him because he was innocent.  Some of the lines they said, and some of the plot devices seem to support this.  Maybe it's because of this that the whole production seems like a mess.  I'm wondering if at the last minute they brought it back to Freddy always being the bad guy.  Just a thought...

It's not even that for me, I got the same feeling that in the beginning maybe we were supposed to be wondering if Freddy was wrongly accused or not. Personally, it bothered me more that they came right out and stated that he was a child molestor in this one, whereas in the originals he was always referred to as just a child murderer. It's a minor detail, sure, but for whatever reason it bothers me more this way.

My main issues with the new film were that it was so unoriginal, and honestly just flat out boring. When the writers hit a wall, they just randomly chose a scene from Wes Craven's movie and plugged it in. Also, if you really think about it, that Freddy is supposed to appear in DREAMS, just try and watch this remake and not laugh out loud at some of the stupidity. For instance, the emo kid, who is attacked by Freddy during a swim meet. We are supposed to believe that this kid FELL ASLEEP while competitively SWIMMING. Like he was IN THE POOL racing against other people. And fell asleep.

Other little things, like Nancy not even being a main character, etc. got under my skin as well. I wanted to love it, I've liked all the other big reboots to some degree, but I just couldn't find anything to like here.

I don't know why they couldn't use Robert Englund in the remake. Did he not want to do it? The burn makeup could've covered up his age. Hell, Freddy could age if he wanted to, anyway, he's looked every other kind of way.
