I just watched Fatal Games (1982)... I love 80s slashers... This one made no sense whatsoever, and still I love it.  I wonder what it is about that era that so many people love.

chrisbennett A U.S. release has been announced (finally), so if I can wait a few months I won't have to buy the U.K. DVD.

For me the 80s thing is pure nostalgia since I was born in the mid 70s. I think maybe for people not from the era it's the WTF factor of movies made purely for the video store boom, like exploitation movies but straight to video instead of straight to the drive-in.

chrisbennett I liked it. close enough to the original that you know it's a remake, but different enough that you have to watch and see how the assholes die.
Marcus How is the I Spit on Your Grave remake? I'm going to be watching it shortly...

Marcus Yeah, I feel the same way now that I've seen the movie. It felt a whole lot more intense for the revenge sequences in particular, which I wasn't expecting.

  • About Me I live in New England. Finally getting to see a movie you've been waiting for is awesome. I like to be scared. Pizza goes with movies at home, while Twizzlers goes with movies at the theater. People are funny to watch. Being outdoors is nice. Movies about things that could really happen are generally boring, while movies about things that could never happen are generally entertaining. I don't travel nearly as much as I would like to. New England is wicked awesome.
  • Ghostface at work on my new novel, Cottonwood. Can see the finishing line up ahead.
  • Screamer Horror movie night, with loads and loads of alcohol on the cards for tonight! Good times! :)
  • katemonroe Monday morning already, but it's okay because I've already had 4 coffees and I have a strong feeling that this week is going to kick ass...
  • WednesdaysChild Watched Haunts (1977) last night. Still working my way through the Mill Creek Drive In 50 pack and the Chilling Classics 50s pack; are there any other sets worth buying?
  • Marcus What...? Am I the only one who doesn't understand the ending to Sleepaway Camp?

I thought the remake had some interesting set pieces, but it was a shame to redo Freddy.  Not having Robert Englund affected the whole feel of the film and made it seem like the generic store brand version.

It kinda felt like they originally wanted the story to turn out that Freddy was wrongly accused, and was taking revenge on the children of the people who killed him because he was innocent.  Some of the lines they said, and some of the plot devices seem to support this.  Maybe it's because of this that the whole production seems like a mess.  I'm wondering if at the last minute they brought it back to Freddy always being the bad guy.  Just a thought...

I've seen these movies too many times to be objective about them anymore.  It is my favorite slasher series.  I can't chose a favorite, but I can say Paramount made the best ones.
